Avera Health provides health care services to eastern South Dakota as well as parts of Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and North Dakota. The health care system operates an extensive network of facilities, including some 28 hospitals (totaling 1,450 acute-care beds) and 140 primary care community clinics. Other facilities include nursing homes, hospices, urgent care clinics, and home health offices. These operations are divided into five regions: Avera St. Luke's, Avera Queen of Peace, Avera Marshall, Avera McKennan, and Avera Sacred Heart. The system also operates a health care plan and Avera PACE, a hospital purchasing organization. Avera Health is sponsored by the Benedictine Sisters and Presentation Sisters.
