Atmel's nonvolatile memory devices include flash memory and ROMs. The company also markets programmable logic chips, microcontroller units (MCUs) for an array of devices, application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), and touchscreen products. Atmel's chips are favored in consumer electronics, communications, industrial, military, and networking products, including base stations and wireless handsets, along with avionics systems, networking switches and routers, and television set-top boxes. Customers include Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, and Siemens. Most of the company's sales come from customers outside the US.
