Company Description

Ares Management could be called the god of investment warfare. The firm (and its subsidiary Ares Capital) invests in companies through private equity, recapitalizations, and leveraged buyouts. Ares makes its investments in an assortment of industries and typically invests $25 million to $75 million per transaction. Portfolio companies include Simmons Bedding, Orchard Supply Hardware, WCA Waste, and AmeriQual, a provider of ready-to-eat meals to the military. Ares Management was founded in 1997 by several executives affiliated with Apollo Management. The low-profile private equity firm has nearly $40 billion of committed capital under management. It has offices in the US, Europe, and Asia.
