Company Description

Applied Minerals (formerly Atlas Mining) develops the Dragon mine in Utah. The 230-acre site contains a deposit of halloysite clay, a substance used as an intermediate ingredient in chemicals manufacturing as well as in making bone china, fine china, and porcelain. The mine is believed to be the only source of halloysite clay in the Western Hemisphere suitable for large-scale commercial production. In addition to halloysite, the Dragon mine contains other clays, including kaolinite, ilite, and smectite, as well as iron oxide ores such as hematite, goethite, and manganese. The Dragon property contains a measured resource of nearly 600,000 tons of clay and more than 2 million tons of iron ore.
