AMU operates leading newspaper syndicate Universal Uclick, which handles work from more than 125 creators, including Garry Trudeau (whose Doonesbury strip was "discovered" by founders Jim Andrews and John McMeel). The firm distributes comics and columns on the Web through its Uclick digital division, and its Andrews McMeel Publishing publishes some 300 books, as well as calendars and other items. Its AMUSE unit develops AMU properties for TV and film. Chairman John McMeel and vice chairman Kathleen Andrews own AMU, which was founded in 1970.
