It also sells to institutional customers, including hospitals, assisted living centers, and government agencies. The company was founded in 1906 and has been owned by private equity firm Hancock Park Capital since 2006. Constrained by the economic downturn and slumping demand for furniture, American of Martinsville filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May 2010. Its assets were sold in August 2010.
