Monsanto wants to dominate the US seed market, and it's looking to do so one company at a time. In 2004 the agrochemical and biotechnology behemoth created American Seeds Inc. (ASI) to act as the mother ship to a number of regional seed producers it planned to buy. Headquartered in St. Louis, ASI's first acquisition was the Indiana corn seed company, Channel Bio Corp. It has since followed that acquisition with the purchase of many of seed other companies.
