AmerAlia is sold on soda. Through subsidiary Natural Soda, Inc., AmerAlia owns sodium bicarbonate leases in the region of Colorado's Piceance Creek Basin. AmerAlia can produce about 110,000 tons of various grades of sodium bicarbonate per year. Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) is used in animal feed, food, and pharmaceuticals. Byproducts such as soda ash and caustic soda are used to make glass, detergents, and chemicals. Investment group Sentient USA Resources Fund owns about three-quarters of AmerAlia. The company's operations are handled through 18%-owned subsidiary Natural Soda Holdings, which itself owns Natural Soda, Inc. outright.
