The Alaska Department of Natural Resources wants to save the environment in the Land of the Midnight Sun. Through its seven divisions, the agency protects the state's resources, including its land, water, and 34,000 miles of coastline, for its residents and future generations. The department protects nearly 140 million acres of forest, works with farmers for agricultural development, and manages parks and outdoor recreation areas. It also oversees Alaska's oil and gas leasing programs, as well as mineral exploration in the state. The agency has an annual budget of about $120 million.
