The system, based on the TETRA (terrestrial trunked radio standard), is used by police, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel to communicate via both voice and data transmission. The system is part of a government funded Critical National Infrastructure initiative in the UK which provides Airwave access primarily to police throughout England, Scotland, and Wales.
