Afren is mostly about Africa. The independent exploration and production company is focused on about 30 developing opportunities in a dozen countries across Africa (including Congo Brazzaville, Ghana, the Ivory Coast, Nigeria, São Tomé and Príncipe, and South Africa). In 2010 Afren reported estimated reserves of 136 million barrels of oil equivalent. The company was producing more than 14,300 barrels oil equivalent per day. With its focus on the African continent, the company's strategy balances production growth, growing reserves (both organically and through acquisitions), and maintaining strong cost controls and financial discipline. The company also has a stake in a project in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
