Squeeze a handful of algae and you'll usually just get mush. However, Advanced BioNutrition (ABN) has figured out a way to wring docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), arachidonic acid (ARA), and other fatty acids from specific algae for use as nutritional ingredients in aquaculture and animal feeds. The company manufactures essential fatty oil products that can be used to replace fish meal and fish oil in feed products. ABN is also developing vaccines to treat various aquatic animal diseases, including two that affect the salmon population and a virus that strikes shrimp.
