Company Description
Adecoagro could be Portuguese for agribusiness - the company is one of the largest farmland owners in South America, growing corn, cotton, rice, soybeans, sugar, sunflowers, and wheat on more than 700,000 acres. The group has 21 farms in Argentina, 15 farms in Brazil and two farms in Uruguay. In addition, it has three rice processing plants, a 4,500-cow dairy farm, two coffee processing plants, seven grain and rice storage plants, and two sugar and ethanol mills that have a crushing capacity of 5.2 million tons. The group also raises cattle to be sold for slaughter. Adecoagro, backed by an affiliate of Soros Fund Management, filed to go public in the US in early 2011 aiming to raise almost $500 million.
