Actavis Group is a formidable player in the generic drug market. The company is one of the world's largest generic pharmaceuticals producers, with about 350 drugs in its development pipeline and some 800 products on the market across a variety of therapeutic classes (among them cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and oncology). It also manufactures generic hospital products, including antibiotics, anesthetics, and painkillers. Actavis makes drugs in pill, liquid, injectable, suppository, and other forms. Subsidiary Medis distributes its drugs worldwide. Actavis, which was founded in 1956, is controlled by founder Thor Bjorgolfsson through his investment vehicle Novator.
