TFT-LCD (thin-film transistor liquid-crystal display) panels provide a clear, sharp image -- even in poor lighting -- and are used in car navigation systems, digital still cameras, laptop and notebook computers, television sets, and wireless phones. AUO sells to contract manufacturers, such as Compal, and to OEMs, including Acer, Audiovox, Panasonic, and Sony. The company sells primarily to customers in Asia; 70% of sales goes to customers in China and Taiwan. AU Optronics was formed by the merger of Acer Display Technology and Unipac Optoelectronics.
