ADS Tactical is geared toward gearing up the military. Serving primarily agencies in the Department of Defense, ADS specializes in helping customers procure tactical and operational military equipment. Like a retailer, it sells 160,000 products manufactured by some 1,500 vendors, including Camelbak, FLIR, L-3 Communications, Oakley and SureFire, but its niche offering is its supply management services. These services, which are tailored to military customers, include kitting (packaging related products in groups), assembly, training, custom sourcing, product research and development, and quality assurance; it does not manufacture or distribute products. Formed in 1997, ADS filed to go public in 2011.
