Some are content to collect and dust their tchotchkes, but others are compelled to make them. A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts is eager to serve them all (focusing on women 35 and older). The chain's 130-plus superstores (up from 17 in 1997) sell crafts and art and scrapbooking supplies, which account for about 60% of sales, as well as yarn, seasonal items, fashion crafts, home decor and picture frames, and everything else needed to glue, paint, or arrange. A.C. Moore also offers in-store arts-and-crafts classes. Its stores are located in more than a dozen states along the East Coast. Founded in 1985, A.C. Moore was acquired in late 2011 by affiliates of arts and crafts distributor Sbar's, Inc. for about $41 million.
