3D Systems helps product designers and engineers bring their 3-D dreams to life. The company's stereolithography apparatuses (SLAs) and other machines create 3-D prototypes of everything from toys to airplane parts. 3D Systems' SLAs rapidly produce 3-D objects using CAD/CAM software in a process called solid imaging, which uses a laser to cut successive layers from resin to form a physical model. Its ThermoJet solid object printer fabricates plastic models using a modified ink jet printing system. 3D Systems' customers include General Electric, Hasbro, Motorola, and Texas Instruments. About 60% of the company's sales comes from outside the US; European customers account for around 45% of sales. To read the full description, subscribe now.
