Tekelec puts calls through. The company's network signaling systems include media gateway controllers and signaling gateways that enable mobile messaging, network intelligence, and migration to Internet protocol (IP) connectivity. Its performance management and monitoring applications are used to improve network security, troubleshoot problems, and detect and remedy revenue loss. Tekelec sells directly and through distributors worldwide to telephone network operators and contact centers. AT&T is a key client. In 2012 Tekelec was taken private by a group of investors led by Siris Capital Group for $780 million; other buyers included ComVest, Sankaty Advisors, and ZelnickMedia.
