Castle Harlan is a private equity firm with investments in the restaurant, manufacturing, distribution, and other industries in the US and Australia. The hands-on company sniffs out established enterprises with steady earnings; it often partners with the existing management of an acquired business, places directors on its board, and eventually seeks a profitable exit. Its holdings include book and DVD distributor Baker & Taylor, Morton's Restaurant Group, and Caribbean Restaurants, a franchisor of Burger King restaurants in Puerto Rico. Castle Harlan was co-founded in 1987 by Leonard Harlan and chairman John Castle, a former CEO of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette.
