The Tennessee Court System helps interpret the law enacted by the legislature for its some 6 million state residents. Its top court, the state's Supreme Court, evaluates appeals of decisions made by other courts and has a chief justice and four associate judges. The Court of Appeals and Court of Criminal Appeals each have 12 judges. Among the other courts in the judicial branch are trial courts, including the Chancery, Criminal, and Circuit Courts, as well as the Juvenile, Family Court, and Municipal Courts.
