The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, better known as The Recording Academy, provides arts advocacy, outreach and education, and support services to professionals in the recording industry. The membership organization boasts some 18,000 members served by a dozen regional chapters throughout the US. The Recording Academy acknowledges outstanding work by musicians, producers, engineers, and recording professionals with its annual GRAMMY Awards ceremonies. Its first international venture, The Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (which produces The Latin GRAMMY Awards), was formed in 1997. The Recording Academy was established in 1957.
