The Kansas Department of Corrections wants to help keep criminals off the street, so you can sleep at night. The agency is dedicated to providing public safety by overseeing the supervision of nearly 9,000 inmates about 10 corrections facilities. It also oversees some 6,000 people on parole. Through academic and vocational education services, as well as its sex offender treatment program, the department also assists offenders in becoming contributing members of society. The Kansas Department of Corrections victim services unit notifies crime victims of a change in status of inmates, and the agency's parole board determines when an inmate will be released from prison.
