Isomet never met a laser beam it couldn't control. The company makes acousto-optic systems that manipulate interactions between light and sound to control laser beams, especially in color image reproduction applications such as laser printing and phototypesetting. Isomet had long made graphic arts systems of its own -- including digital scanners and graphics plotters -- but has been winding down that business as it expands its production of birefringent materials (such as lead molybdate) used in fiber-optic applications. The company also offers components such as athermal filters, anti-reflection coatings, tunable filters, and optical switches.
