The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) wants the state's public schools to get an A+ in all subjects. The board provides funding and support to the students, teachers, and administrators in Illinois' more than 850 public school districts and nearly 4,000 schools. Created in 1975, the nine-member board sets state educational policies and guidelines for elementary, middle, and high schools, and disburses and oversees more than $8 billion in state and federal funds annually.
