Heartland Co-op has no need to go against the grain. The cooperative offers agricultural products and services for its central Iowa member/farmers. Heartland operates more than 50 grain elevators and service centers. It offers agronomy products and services, such as seed treatments and alfalfa fertilization; grain drying, storage, and merchandising; petroleum products for farm vehicles and home heating; livestock and pet feed; and personal and crop credit and financing. Headquartered in West Des Moines, Heartland was formed in 1987 when cooperatives in Dallas Center, Minburn, and Panora merged. Heartland, which has grown to more than 5,400-members, merged with Farm Service Company of Council Bluffs in 2013.
