The Executive Office of the State of Tennessee enforces state laws for its 6 million Volunteers. The governor, the head of the executive branch, oversees the state budget that provides funds for state agencies such as the Departments of Agriculture, Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities, and Transportation. The governor approves or vetoes laws that are acted on by the General Assembly, which consists of the state Senate and House of Representatives. The General Assembly can override the governor's veto with enough votes.
