The Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere (CARE) strives to be the beginning of the end of poverty. The organization works to reduce poverty in about 85 countries by helping communities in areas such as health, education, economic development, emergency relief, and agriculture. CARE supports more than 1,100 projects to combat poverty. It also operates a small economic activity development (SEAD) unit that supports moneymaking activities. Through SEAD, CARE provides technical training and savings and loans programs to help people -- particularly women -- open or expand small businesses. CARE was founded in 1945 to give aid to WWII survivors.
