If you want to venture out for some live music but are not in the mood for rock or pop, then a performance by The Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) might strike the right chord with you. Featuring compositions by composers like Beethoven, Mozart, and Stravinsky, the BSO performs more than 100 concerts during the regular season at Symphony Hall. The BSO also performs during the summer at the Tanglewood music center; other BSO-related performances are given by the smaller and lighter Boston Pops orchestra. One of the more prominent orchestras in the US, the BSO was founded in 1881 by businessman Henry Lee Higginson. Current music director James Levine is the BSO's first America-born conductor.
