Europe's all abuzz, thanks in part to Vattenfall, which provides power to 7.7 million retail customers in Belgium, Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and Sweden. The Nordic region's largest utility group has about 35,850 MW of generating capacity in the region from interests in nuclear, hydroelectric, and fossil-fueled power plants, as well as from biomass and waste plants and wind farms; it also sells gas, markets wholesale energy, and operates district heating facilities. State-owned Vattenfall also invests heavily in research and development to improve the operational efficiency of its traditional power plants and to develop green energy power sources.
