Life's a beach for the sand-sellers at U.S. Silica. The industrial mineral company provides silica and aplite for the glass, foundry, chemical, and construction industries; and fine ground silica and kaolin clay used to make paint, plastics, and ceramics. Its "frac sand" product -- currently its fastest-growing offering -- is used by natural gas and oil producers in hydraulic fracturing, a process to boost oil and gas production. U.S. Silica also makes raw materials for solar panels. The company supplies customers in the US and Canada. In addition to its main facility in West Virginia, U S. Silica also has 15 plants in the East. U.S. Silica went public in 2012 with an offering worth $200 million.
