Employees at The Durham Co. have Thomas Edison to thank for their jobs. For over a half century the company has manufactured electrical hook-ups for investor-owned utilities to rural electric coops, and electric municipalities. Its lineup specializes in meter sockets, metering enclosures, socket-breakers and switch combinations, and transformers. Durham enclosures protect breakers and generator transfer switches, as well as meter pedestals. For metering relay circuits and instrument circuits, Durham also makes an array of test switches. The company's two Missouri plants divide up work; one makes the pad mount product line, and the other, enclosures and sockets. Durham is owned by the family of George E. Carr.
