SunEdison finances, installs, and operates solar power plants and systems for customers including corporations, government agencies, and utility companies in North America and Europe. It also provides monitoring and maintenance services for customers with existing solar power systems. Customers have included Anheuser-Busch, the US Department of Energy, and Whole Foods. The company was founded in 2003, backed by investment companies Goldman Sachs, MissionPoint Capital Partners, and Black River Asset Management (a subsidiary of Cargill). In 2009 it was acquired by silicon wafer maker MEMC Electronic Materials. The next year SunEdison and solar power developer SkyPower launched two solar parks in Canada.
