Mechanical positioning of its panels' parts prevents loss of production due to shading. It also makes the solar-grade silicon, solar wafers, and solar cells that go into its modules, as well as all-in-one kits for module installation. SolarWorld gets around 90% of its sales in Europe, primarily in Germany. The company was founded in 1988 by CEO Frank Asbeck, who owns one-quarter of SolarWorld.
