Oil refiner and marketer Shell Oil Products US and its sister company Motiva have the US covered. The Royal Dutch Shell unit operates refineries and crude oil pipelines in the western US and markets petroleum products via Shell-branded outlets in the West and Midwest. Motiva does the same in the eastern US. Together, Motiva (8,300 gas stations) and Shell Oil Products US (6,000 gas stations) form the #1 US gasoline retailing business. Motiva is a 50-50 joint venture between Shell Oil and Saudi Arabia's national oil company Saudi Aramco. Shell operates four refineries throughout the country; Motiva has three of its own.
