As a child of Tianyuan Iron and Steel, China's largest steel maker, Shanxi Taigang Stainless Steel pulls its weight. It produces stainless hot-rolled plate, cold-rolled sheet and strip, composite plate, and continuous cast sheet. Taigang Stainless wares are used in construction, petrochemical transport, communications systems, the medical field, and food processing machinery. The company has the capacity to produce one million tons of stainless steel and about half a million tons of cold-rolled steel plate. Taigang Stainless was formed in 1998 when Tianyuan Iron and Steel consolidated its steel making plants under one name. The company is developing iron ore deposits in an effort to become self-sufficient.
