As the exclusive operator of the world's busiest port, Shanghai International Port (Group) (SIPG) both controls and facilitates access to oceangoing commerce in Shanghai. SIPG businesses include container terminals (six companies processing 22 million containers per year), non-container terminals (13 distribution companies serving the Yangtze River Valley), port-related logistics (three companies supporting the terminals), and port services (seven companies providing logistics software, cruise ship terminal development, engineering, and other services). The company was formed in 2003 with the reorganization of the Shanghai Port Authority; it went public in 2006.
