Japan's biggest retail conglomerate, Seven & i Holdings caters to six of the so-called seven deadly sins (saving wrath for its competition). The "seven" of the company's title reflects the seven areas of business that it is involved with: convenience stores, general merchandise and department stores, restaurants, supermarkets, banks, and IT services. The "holding" part of the firm's name consists of its subsidiaries: Seven-Eleven Japan (parent of 7-Eleven in the US), Ito-Yokado, Sogo & Seibu Co., Seven & i Food Systems, Seven Bank, and York-Benimaru. Created in 2005 after stock-transfer agreements absorbing its subsidiaries into the company took effect, Seven & i operates some 41,900 stores worldwide.
