RWE doesn't stand for Runs With Electricity, but it could. RWE is one of Germany's top two electricity suppliers (along with E.ON). Through its subsidiaries, the energy conglomerate provides electricity and gas to residential and business customers, primarily in Central and Western Europe. It also owns major UK-based utilities, and German-based electricity and gas supplier RWE npower. RWE owns oil and gas exploration and production unit RWE-DEA; other businesses include companies engaged in gas transportation and storage, power generation (including wind), energy trading, information technology, and coal mining. In 2011 RWE served 17 million electricity customers, and 8 million gas customers.
