The crown jewel of India's oil and gas assets, state-owned Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is India's largest exploration and production company. It is also the country's largest multinational corporation. In a country reliant on imported fuels, ONGC, which has estimated proved and probable reserves of 6.4 billion metric tonnes of oil equivalent, accounts for the 78% of India's oil and gas production. ONGC operates a more than 15,000-km. pipeline network and owns nearly 72% of Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL). International exploration and production subsidiary ONGC Videsh has established exploration activities in 17 countries. India's government owns 74% of ONGC.
