There's a lot of oil and gas heft in Tatneft. One of Russia's largest integrated oil companies, Tatneft explores for, produces, refines, and markets oil and gas. Tatneft sits on 6.1 billion barrels of proved crude oil reserves, and accounts for about 8% of Russia's total oil production. The company has formed joint ventures and strategic alliances with Russian and Western oil and gas companies. The Tatar government owns 36% of Tatneft, which has formed its first joint venture to develop fields outside Tatarstan (in Kalmykia, a republic in southern Russia).
