What did you get when a Japanese production process met a California lifestyle? The answer was New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI). The company, once a 50/50 joint venture between General Motors and Toyota, made Tacoma pickup trucks and Corolla sedans for Toyota. Unable to agree with Toyota on future product plans to replace the Pontiac Vibe, which had also been made at the plant, GM announced plans to pull out of the venture in mid-2009. GM discontinued the Pontiac brand and ended Vibe production at NUMMI the following month. NUMMI rolled out its last vehicle on April 1, 2010, ending the facility's operations.
