New Process Gear, Inc. Company Profile

After miles of smooth driving, New Process Gear finally ran into a bumpy stretch of road. Established in 1888, New Process Gear (NPG) announced that it would close in 2012. Owned by a series of OEMs, NPG manufactures transfer cases for four-wheel drive systems and other drivetrain products for customers that have included Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, and BMW. Magna bought NPG (formerly New Venture Gear) from DaimlerChrysler in 2004. Since 2004, owner woes have forced NPG to cut headcount and wind down operations. The plant was scheduled to close in late August 2012.
