A subsidiary of one of the largest banks in the world, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), Mitsubishi UFJ NICOS is one of Japan's top credit card companies. It has some 20 million MasterCard and Visa cards in circulation under the MUFG, UFJ Card, NICOS, and DC Card brands. In 2007 it reached agreement with American Express to issue that company's cards. The following year Mitsubishi UFJ NICOS transferred its consumer installment and auto lending operations to JACCS in exchange for that firm's credit card and mortgage-related operations. Later in 2008, MUFG, which had owned about 75% of Mitsubishi UFJ NICOS, acquired the remainder of the company's outstanding shares.
