Independent power producer International Power is powerfully international. The company develops, owns, and operates primarily fossil-fueled power plants worldwide. It holds interests in power plants in 30 countries that collectively have a gross generating capacity of more than 75,579 MW. It also has interests in about 12,820 MW of plants under construction. International Power sells power through supply contracts and merchant marketing and trading transactions. It also invests in liquefied natural gas, gas distribution, desalination, and retail businesses. In 2012 Electrabel, a GDF SUEZ subsidiary, made a cash offer and acquired the remaining 30% stake in International Power it did not already own.
