Humboldt Redwood Company, LLC Company Profile

Humboldt Redwood (formerly The Pacific Lumber Company, or PALCO) has a controversial relationship with California's redwoods. One of the oldest and largest producers of redwood lumber in the US, the company holds more than 200,000 acres of timberland in Humboldt County, though the company is not permitted to harvest on about half of that land.  Subsidiaries include timber harvester Scotia Pacific (SCOPAC) and Britt Lumber. Founded in 1863, PALCO was acquired by MAXXAM in 1986 and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in early 2007. Mendocino Redwood Company, owned by founders of The Gap, gained control of PALCO in 2008.
