These sisters want their big family to benefit everyone in the community. Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS), a Catholic ministry of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, operates more than a dozen hospitals located throughout Wisconsin and Illinois. Its facilities have a total of more than 2,500 beds and range from large-scale acute care facilities such as St. John's Hospital (Springfield, Illinois), St. Elizabeth's Hospital (Bellevue, Illinois), and St. Vincent Hospital (Green Bay, Wisconsin) to small community hospitals; it also operates regional outpatient clinics. While the organization was incorporated in 1978, the health care ministry of the HSHS goes back to 1875.
