Highland Gold wants to make its fortune in Russia. The company has mining operations in Russia, including its primary asset, one of the country's largest producing mines, Mnogovershinnoye (MNV). The company produces more than 150,000 ounces of gold annually. Highland Gold has two other properties, in the Chita region of Russia: the Novoshirokinskoye project, which entered production in 2009, and another that is in development. It also owns exploration projects in Russia and Kyrgyzstan. Canadian mining giant Barrick Gold sold its 20% stake in Highland in 2012 to institutional shareholders of Highland. Investment group Millhouse (run by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich) owns about 40% of the Highland.
