H.E.R.C. likes to run a clean ship. The company makes chemicals for treating water scale and corrosion on ship surfaces and in pipeline systems, and provides marine tank cleaning services. H.E.R.C. products such as Pipe-Klean and Well-Klean are combined with water and flushed through water delivery systems, sprinkler systems, waste systems, and water wells. Many of H.E.R.C.'s products are biodegradable and don't require the expensive clean-up that other, more toxic chemicals do. H.E.R.C. also sells products for use in cleaning industrial systems. The US Navy and Coast Guard are important customers. In 2007 H.E.R.C. bought Simplex Building, and in 2008 agreed to acquire Marine Environmental Services.
