Auchan's mammoth markets make room for more than meals. France's second-largest food retailer (behind Carrefour), Auchan operates more than 750 supermarkets and 640 hypermarkets in a dozen countries. France represents 45% of Auchan's sales, but it also has stores throughout Central, Eastern and Western Europe, and Asia. (Auchan quit the US, Mexico, and Dubai in recent years.) Its hypermarkets (80% of sales) carry up to 100,000 products, including groceries, apparel, consumer electronics, and fast food. They also provide travel services. Auchan's other core businesses include banking (Oney Banque Accord), and shopping mall development (Immochan) and e-commerce. The founding Mulliez family controls Auchan.
